Long Live Open Source Software !!

Do you know firewall? Firewall is a device or set of devices configured to permit, deny, encrypt, decrypt, or proxy all computer traffic between different security domains based upon a set of rules and other criteria. On linux there is iptables that can act as firewall. But for newbies, iptables is too difficult to use. Because iptables use console as its interface. Many people think that console is scary. But now there is Firestarter that act as GUI for iptables.

With Firestarter, you can easily configure which host can access your computer. You can also configure which host that can be accessed by your computer. Forget about typing iptables manually in console. By using this application, you don’t have to see your scary console again. Not only that, Firestarter can show iptables statistic like if you type iptables -nxvL in command line.  But it looks more friendly than the console version. Look at the screenshot above for detail.

However, i think this tool is not suitable for expert people. As far as i know, Firestarter only provides option to block some IP or network. Although it has many other features, but I think it is not enough for an expert. But overall this tool is good for newbies.
