Long Live Open Source Software !!

CrossOver Chromium ScreenshotI think there are so many news about google chrome out there. But google itself has yet to come up with Mac or Linux editions of its Chrome. So, I, as linux users, must wait for linux version to try that browser. But a company named CodeWeaver has created an imitation using Chrome source code. By using Wine and Chrome’s source code, they has created Chromium.

Chromium is an open-source browser project that aims to build a safer, faster, and more stable way for all Internet users to experience the web. The Chromium codebase is the basis for Google’s Chrome browser. But, as the FAQ says, you should not use this browser as your main browser. This project is just for fun. But i think, for linux or mac users who want to try Google Chrome in their computer, this is a great choice.

As far as i try this apps, it runs like real Chrome. One process one tab, incognito window (to open secret site maybe ), and many more. Its interface also really like the real one. But it has weakness too. Its interface is really slow and won’t work well with Compiz. I tried maximize it but it didn’t change. It doesn’t have autoupdater too like Chrome. So, you won’t receive any security update like Chrome do.

CrossOver Chromium can be downloaded free of charge from the CodeWeavers site for Mac OS X 10.4 or later on Intel-based Macs, and several Linux distributions, including Debian, Red Hat and Ubuntu.
